COUNTRY COMPLILATION

I am not really a fan of country music. Those slide guitar and steel peddling I just cannot take too much. The modern country music is more my cup of tea.. Anyway, good music is good music, be it rock, pop, soul or whatever. Here are a few country collections that I have with me.

22 GOLDEN COUNTRY DREAM : I really can't for the life of me remember when I've purchased this CD. Must have bought it for some loose change or something. Anyway, it's quite listenable. Some of the songs I've already have on my other CD but it's a nice change to hear a different version of a song that was so associated with a certain artist like 'Love Me Tender' by Stu Stevens, 'Jambalaya' by George Jones, 'India Reservation' by Don Fargon and 'Take Me Home, Country Roads' by B.T. Jones. Interesting though not necessarily better. The rest of the goodies are 'Fraulein', 'Rose Garden', 'Wasted Days And Wasted Nights' and 'Don't Cry Joni' , all by the original artists. DOP : Unknown.

GOLDEN COLLECTION. 46 CLASSIC COUNTRY SONGS : CLASSIC COUNTRY :  Got this collection primarily for the price. It was so cheap I just couldn't resist. Like most collection of this kind, most of the songs are repeats from other collection. Disc 1 have 'The Happiest Girl In The Whole USA'. '9,999,999 Tears' which was quite popular in the 70's. I didn't know you could count tears by the numbers but still it have a catchy tune. 'Lookin' For Love' is also quite a favorite from the past. Part of the joy I get from these collections are the familiar songs that I've known all these years being sung by other artists. From here I have the original version of 'I'll Always Love You' by Dolly Parton, 'Everything Is Beautiful' ( Judy Rodman ), 'Put A Little Love In Your Heart ( Sandy Posey ), 'Baby, I'm Yours ( Jody Miller ), 'Never Ending Song Of Love ( Dicky Lee ). This immensely popular song was covered by Bobby Vinton, Delaney & Bonnie And Friends which was the original and of course The New Seekers which was the most popular. Dicky Lee's version was not bad too. 'Afternoon Delight ( Johnny Carver ), 'You Light Up My Life ( Margo Smith ) and 'Top Of The World' ( Lynn Anderson ).  Disc 2 have 'Take Me Home, Country Roads', 'Tom Dooley', 'The Wayward Wind', 'High Noon', 'Tennessee Waltz' and the once hard to find 'The Room At The Top Of The Stair' among others. Interesting cover of songs includes 'There Goes My Everything' ( Jack Greene ), 'Send Me The Pillow You Dream On' ( Hank Locklin ), and 'Green, Green Grass Of Home' ( Porter Wagoner ). Of the song that I first heard here 'Right Or Wrong' by Wanda Jackson stands out. It have a thumping melody that just grabs you by the throat and never let go until u admit you like it. GOLDEN COLLECTION. 46 CLASSIC COUNTRY SONGS : CLASSIC COUNTRY 2 : This is again is a double CD. I bought it primarily for Jennifer Warnes's 'I Know A Heartache When I See One', a song that I've absolutely loved and I have it on a pirate disc for so long. Again I have most of the songs here but the ones that interest me are 'Yellow Bird', 'Island In The Stream' and other songs that are sang by some other artists other than the one who popularize them such as 'Am I That Easy To Forget' by a Carl Belew. Disc 2 have 'There Goes My Everything' Jack Greene ) which was on the first volume, and 'The Wayward Wind' by Slim Whitman. I've heard many version of this song and this was the version that I use to sing in campfire during my Hash House Harriets days. And then there's the slow and gentle 'I Swear' by John Michael Montgomery before Boys To Men took the song to orbit. 'My Elusive Dream' was a song that I first heard as a duet by Glen Campbell and Bobbie Gentry and here it was sung by Charlie Rich. 'Love Hurts' too, was a song that was done by many others but the song really belong to Nazareth. Here it was sung by Emmylou Harris feat. Carl Jackson, which really was not that memorable. { Tie ) A Yellow Ribbon", the song so associated with Tony Orlando & Dawn was sung here by Johnny Carver and Jody Miller's feminine take of Roger Miller's 'King Of The Road' re-titled 'Queen Of The House' was rather cute. DOP : 10th March 2013.
