A BLAST FROM THE PAST

CLASSIC: SMOKEY ROBINSON & THE MIRACLES : Smokey Robinson & The Miracles was the first successful recording acts for Motown record in the sixties. There were among one of the few groups who wrote their own songs. Apart from writing their own songs, they were also successful composing songs for the likes of Mary Wells, The Temptations and Mavin Gaye. Smokey Robinson also have one of his composition, 'You've Really Got A Hold On Me' being recorded by The Beatles. Other songs of note includes 'The Tears Of A Clown', 'Shop Around', Ooo Baby Baby' and 'The Tracks Of My Tears'.  DOP : 28th December 2011.

THE VERY BEST OF...GEORGE BENSON : THE GREATEST HITS OF ALL : I was never much into jazz and George Benson but then this was selling at RM 9.90, so I just got to have it. George Benson was a one time child prodigy who topped the Billboard 200 in 1976 with a triple selling album called "Breezing". Most were not aware of it but The Carpenters' 'This Masquerade' and Whitney Houston's 'The Greatest Song Of All' were both sang by George Benson first. The others that I like here are 'Noting's Gonna Change My Love For You', and his duet with Roberta Flack, 'You Are The Love Of My Life'. Other than this, the other songs cannot sustain my interest in this CD. 28th December 2011.DOP : 2nd June 2010.

STEVIE WONDER - SONG REVIEW : A GREATEST HITS COLLECTION : Stevie Wonder was one of a few super talented musicians to make records on which he played virtually all the instrumentals and does so brilliantly. Though blind from birth, that have never hindered him from becoming one of the most influential musicians of all time. This single disc does not do the man justice at all. He need at least 3 CD just to scrape the top of his musical barrel. What's featured here however are not bad at all for the casual fans. 'Isn't She Lovely', the super commercial 'I Just Called To Say I Love You', 'Superstition', 'You Are The Sunshine Of My Life', 'My Cherie Amour' , Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday, and his duet with Paul McCartney 'Ebony & Ivory. Looking at the titles, you can't deny that the man's a genius. DOP : 24th November 1996.

THE GREATEST HITS OF THE STYLISTICS : LET'S PUT IT ALL TOGETHER : The Stylistics were the leading pioneer of the 'Philadelphia Sound' of the mid seventies. With music composed by Philadelphia producer / writer Thom Bell and Linda Creed, they scored big with 'You Are Everything', 'Betcha By Golly Wow', 'I'm Stone In Love With You', 'Break Up To Make Up', 'Rockin' Roll Baby' and 'You Made Me Feel Brand New'. They had a second stab at stardom when they broke their collaboration with Thom Bell and got together with Van McCoy. Their sales declined in American but they remained popular in Europe with songs like 'I Can't Give You Anything ( But My Love ), 'Star On A TV Show', and 'Let's Put It All Together'. A CD of theirs that I am still searching for is "Heavy". Every songs is a gems. I don't understand why it have not been issued out yet, and when it does, you can rest assured that I will have another Stylistics CD in my collection. DOP : 27th June 1993.
