ROCK ARTISTS WHO IMPRESSES WITH BALLADS

Rock Music took quite a while before it got to me. I don't quite like the sound rock and so I missed out on quite a bit of rock music or rather rock ballads. I was much more into pop during my initially records buying days. Gradually Rock got to me, especially the big ballads. During the eighties there were no shortage of big rock classic ballads. However, although I wasn't aware of it, I think The Beatles started with their tour de force of a ballad in 'Don't Let Me Down' courtesy of the late great John Lennon. Anyway, I present here the rock ballads that matters.

REO SPEEDWAGON. THE HITS : I bought this not knowing any of the songs save for their big ballad hit 'Can't Fight This Feeling '. Besides this song, I've discovered 'Keep On Loving You' which in my opinion was even better than 'Can't Fight This Feeling'. The other big one for me was 'Take It On The Run', an acoustic type ballad that turned into a rock track that will stops you in your track. The last track that impresses me is a rocker, 'That Ain't Love'. Otherwise this three ballads will do just fine for me. DOP : 16th September 1992.

THE VERY BEST OF THE FOREIGNERS The Foreigners were big in the Eighties with a mixtures of rockers and ballads. However, the sentimental side of me played their ballads more than their rockers and in this aspect they have three. The first I heard of them was 'Waiting For A Girl Like You', which will warm anyone with a heart. After this they scored the monster 'I Want To Know What Love Is'. The next one thought not as big a hit as the other two was equally captivating. 'I Don't Want To Live Without You', will stop me in my tracks whenever and where ever I hear it. The rockers that impresses are 'Cold As Ice', 'Double Version' and 'Urgent'. DOP : 20th March 1992.

SCORPIONS GOLD : When it comes to rock ballads, no one does it better than Scorpions. They rock and hard too but somehow it's their ballads that's what made them great. 'Still Loving You', 'Under The Same Sun', 'Always Somewhere', 'When The Smoke Is Going Down', "Still Loving You' and the epic 'Wind Of Change'.  No one can fault The Scorpions when it comes to ballads. They may rock but somehow the ballads eclipsed their rockers and so I always skipped them for the ballads. I got this CD just before they released their last big one, 'You And I' which never fails to get me all emotional. I got it on my other disc though. DOP : Unknown.

STARSHIP : GREATEST HITS ( TEN YEARS AND CHANGE 1979 - 1991 ) : I admit, I don't know much about Starship. They blasted their way to my awareness through the basis of one song 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now', courtesy of Albert Hammond with Diana Warren. Funny what a hit song can do. Other tracks that matters are 'Sara' and 'We Built This City'. Though it wasn't written on the CD, I believed this CD was given to me by my then wife to be.  DOP : 18th July 1996.
