| The Original Record Sleeve |
I bet there are not many of you out there who have not heard of the song 'Rhythm Of The Rain' by The Cascades. Written by the then 23 years old group founder John Gummoe, it was a world wide smash in 1962 and it was everywhere. I stumbled upon this gem of an album purely by chance. An old school chum of mine just gave it to me 'cos it was not cool enough for him I guess. And boy, oh boy what a record it was. Every tracks is a gem. This is one of those rare record that you can play throughout and not skip a track. The original record have the 12 tracks as follows :-
Side 1 Side 2.
1. Shy Girl 1. Rhythm Of The Rain
2. The Last Leaf 2. Punch And Judy
3. Angel On My Shoulder 3. There's A Reason
4. Let Me Be 4. I Wanna Be Your Lover
5. Dreamin' 5. Was I Dreamin'
6. Lucky Guy 6. My First Day Alone
THE CASCADES : HITS AND RARITIES : Sometimes the success of a hit single can both be a blessing and a curse. "'Rhythm Of The Rain' was such a big hit that everything else on the album was overlooked and that's a damn bloody shame 'cos this really was a fine record and every songs here deserved to be heard. New guitar playing enthusiams will find this a heaven send 'cos the songs are easy to play. Mastered a few cords and you'll be able to sing like a pro. The Cascades did record a few other albums after this fine debut but it all fell under the curse of " Rhythm Of The Rain”
The CD that I've got titled The Cascades, Hits And Rarities came with the same tracks but in different order and have an additional 11 tracks. Of those only one track 'Second Chance' is worth anything. The other 10 tracks are......the less said the better I'm afraid. This is one of those times when less is indeed more.
DOP : 6th September 1997.
