FROM DOWN UNDER, THE SEEKERS TO THE NEW SEEKERS

THE VERY BEST OF THE SEEKERS : The Seekers were the first Australian's folk influenced group that made it big in the UK and US. Unbelievably, they were the main challenge to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the UK Number one chart act during the sixties. Popular during the 1960s, their best known lineup was Judith Durham on vocal, piano and tamborine, Athol Guy on double bass, Keith Porger on twelve string guitar and banjo, Bruce Woodley on guitar, banjo and mandolin.

My memories on The Seekers were snippers of some of their hit songs like 'Georgie Girl', 'A World Of  Our Own', 'The Carnival Is Over' and 'I'll Never Find Another You', written by Tom Springfield, the brother of Dusty Springfield, a popular singer from the same era. I've never got round to buying any of their records nor owned any records of theirs and only bought this CD long after they have since disbanded. Other hits includes 'Morning Town Ride', 'When Will The good Apple Fall', etc. DOP : 26th February 2005.

THE NEW SEEKERS : SONGBOOK 1970 - 74 : Following the breakup of The Seekers, and after a few unsuccessful attempt at resurrecting The Seekers, Keith Potger started The New Seekers, with the intention of continuing in the tradition of The Seekers. Initially he sang with them but after one single release, he wisely opted out and give way to the classic line up of Martin Kristian, Peter Dolye, Paul Layton, Lyn Paul and Eve Graham which was to become the most successful of The New Seekers lineup. I've always like The New Seekers and I have quite a number of their albums. After waiting years for their perfect greatest hits CD to come out, I finally settled for this one. It's close but far from perfect. Because I have quite a number of their albums, there are a lot of choice album tracks that I know and I've missed. My favourites here are 'Never Ending Song Of Love', Circle' 'You Won't Find Another Fool Like Me' and ‘I Get A Little Sentimental Over You' . The last two songs both with vocals from Lyn Paul. Why no ’I Like To Teach The World To Sing' ?. Well, that song have been played so much on the radio that I am just about sick to my stomach to hear it again. If  The New Seekers' original albums were to ever be reissuse on Cd, I'll be the first in line to get them all. Yeah, I miss them that much. DOP : 18th April 2006.
