THE BAND WHO SHOT THEMSELVES ON THEIR FEET - THE TREMELOES

THE TREMELOES : GOOD DAY SUNSHINE: SINGLES A's & B's : Most of you would associate The Tremeloes with 'Silence Is Golden' but if you look further, you'll find a wealth of materials here.'Here Comes My Baby', 'Even The Bad Times Are Good', 'Suddenly You Love Me', 'Helule Helule.' Heck, I could go on forever.

The Tremeloes started life as a backing band for Brian Poole. As widely documented, they were favoured by the record company instead of The Beatles. When Brian Poole left The Tremeloes to go solo, little do they know that Brian's career would nose dived while The Tremeloes would go from strength to strength. Alan Blakley and  Len 'Chip"Hawkes were great song writers and most if not all of their later songs were written by them. Together with Dave Munden and Rick West, they made up The Tremeloes.

They could have been as big as The Hollies, churching our hits after hits like 'By The Way', '( Call Me ) Number 1', 'My Little Lady' but inevitable it have to happen. Perhaps wanting to be taken more seriously or desperately wanting to shed their bubble gum image, they foolishly issued a statement, along with their new album "Masters" that all their previous music have been shit ...."music for morons" and in future they will only be recording serious and thoughtful music. Fans and critics were aghasted at what they heard. The damage, however was done. From this point on, nothing they did would  make any impact, however good they were, which was a shame 'cos some of them were really good. 'Me & My Life' was to be their last Top Ten hit.

Realising the mistakes that they've made, they moved on to another label and changed their name to The Trems but the public were not fooled. Even more ironic was their missing out on a sure fire guaranteed world wide hit and their chance for redemption when they passed on 'Yellow River.' They recorded it but allow it be dubbed over with Jeff Christie's voice, the composer of the song. Released as Christie, it was a No.1 smash all over the world. Included here is The Tremeloes' spanish version 'No Comprende'

Hence was a band who shot themselves in their collective feet and never recovered. DOP : Unknown.
