MORE RELICS FROM THE SIXTIES

THE KINKS : The Kinks were part of the British Invasion and their early hits, 'You Really Got Me' and 'All Day And All Of The Night' were big hits in the 1960s. Led by Ray Davis who wrote most of their songs, his brother Dave, Mick Avory and Peter Quaife made up the group. Unfortunately, their music failed to tickle my fancy until their 1970 single 'Lola' and 'Apeman' which came from the album "Lola Versus Power man and The Moneygoround, Part One". Quite a mouthful if you ask me. 'Lola' was unique 'cos it was probably the first rock hit about a transvestite. 'Lola' caught my attention but it was 'Apeman' that I totally love. I am aware of the song 'Dandy' too, but I am more familiar with the Herman's Hermits' version. So, for all their popularity, these three songs will do just fine for me. DOP : 1st September 1996.

THE VERY BEST OF THE MARMALADE. LOVIN' THINGS : As mentioned before, The Marmalade's 'Baby Make It Soon' was the first piece of music that I've bought that got me so passionately in love with music. Unfortunately, this was not the original version. It was a remake and I am still looking for the original version. They have their first hit with The Beatles' 'Obladi Oblada' which I don't care much for at all 'cos their version sounded so dated. The Beatles' original clearly is the superior version. Anyway, apart from these two songs, there is also the definite Marmalade's song, 'Reflection Of My Life' Others includes the minor hits 'Rainbow', and ‘Cousin Norman'. DOP : Unknown

THE VERY BEST OF FRANKIE VALLI & THE FOUR SEASONS : Frankie Vallie & The Four Seasons were one of the most popular doo-wop group during their hey days. I particularly like 'Big Girl Don't Cry' and ‘Walk Like A Man'. Most of their songs were written by their own keyboard player, Bob Crewe and their producer Bob Gaudio. Another of their song ' Silence Is Golden' was hijacked by The Tremeloes and it became a big hit for them. Frankie Valli of course have another solo career of his own with 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You', criminally left off this CD and the stylish interpretation of a classic love ballad 'My Eyes Adored You'. Frankie, later in the late 1970's of course scored big with the Barry Gibb penned Theme song from the smash movie hit "Grease". This CD covered all the songs I need from Frankie Valli & & Four Seasons except for that one which I am still fuming. DOP : Unknown.

THE SEARCHERS GREATEST HITS : The Searchers, named after a John Wayne's movie were reputed to be the second best thing to come out of Liverpool since The Beatles. Mighty praise indeed, but then we know better. I don't really know why I bought this CD. Most probably it's cheap and could add more varieties to my CD collections. Songs here includes 'Sweet For My Sweets', ‘Needles And Pins' and ' Love Potion No. 9', a song I love to sing at Karaoke. I sang this song on a cruise with my family and I got first prize. I sang this song again at my wife's annual dinner and I won something too. Nice memories. DOP : 6th October 2002.

MUSIC FROM AND INSPIRED BY THE MOTION PICTURE : BEAUTIFUL THING : Don't be fooled by the CD covered. A soundtrack it may be but 'Beautiful Thing' consists of all the songs that matters from The Mamas and The Papas. There are all here. 'California Dreamin'', 'Dream A Little Dream Of Me', my personal favorite, Monday, Monday', ' Dedicated To The One I Love' and even some Mama Class Elliot solo hits, 'It's Getting Better' and 'Make Your Own Kind Of Music' which is kind of nice. For a casual fan, this is good enough for me. The movie by the way is about gay love and probably never see the light of day here. This was yet again another discounted CD. DOP : 30th April 2003.

VIVA EQUALS! THE VERY BEST OF THE EQUALS : I bet not many of you here will remember The Equals. I wouldn't say they were very big but one of their song , the infectious 'Baby Come Back' was a big hit in the 1960. Apart from 'Baby Come Back' there were some songs that I remember from way back. 'Viva Bobby Joe, Soul Brother Clifford' and 'Michael And The Slipper Tree', a rather silly song but with a catchy chorus. I got this CD by chance. I went to visit a friend who was selling off market CD. I saw this on the shelf and I grabbed it. He don't know what he's doing selling it to me at below market price. I don't believe you can find this Cd here and I bet he's still kicking himself. 28 songs in all, but only a small handful matters and to me, that's good enough. DOP : 7th January 1999.
