THE BEST OF BADFINGER : When it comes to the most tragic band of all time, Badfinger comes to mind. It's hard to accept that anyone who could write such a beautiful song as 'Without You' can have such tragic consequences. Started out as The Iveys, they changed their name to Badfinger. They got their first big break from Paul McCartney, who gave them the song 'Come And Get It' to boost their profile. Pete Ham and Tom Evans were both gifted song writers. Together with Joey Molland & Mike Gibbons, there make up Badfinger. After the Paul McCartney's hit, all their sub sequence songs were written by the pairs or the other member of the bands. One of my favourite was ' No Matter What', a Beatlesque sounding song, and 'Day After Day' with guitar by George Harrison.
One of their greatest song ' Without You' is unquestionably a timeless classic and will ensure that their music survives the generations, long after many of their contemporaries have faded from memory. Ironically, the song was never a hit for the band. And the fact that Badfinger are chiefly remembered for a song that they did not write merely heightens this irony.
Due to bad management, their latest album from 1974, "Wish You Were Here" were suddenly withdraw from the market. Left with uncertainty and no income, Pete Ham hanged himself 3 days before his 28th birthday on 24th April 1975 and on 19th November 1983, Tom Evans did the same. Thus end the saga of the most tragic group of all time with the most promising start. DOP : 23th April 1995.
