THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE EVERLY BROTHERS: 24 GREATEST HITS : My first record of The Everly Brothers were an EP titled " The Everly Brothers' Original Greatest Hits, Volume 2". It consisted of 4 songs, namely 'Let It Be Me', 'Till I Kissed You', 'Lightning Express' and 'Keep A-Knocking'. When I switched to CD, I couldn't wait to get my hand on their CD. I found this in Singapore. "The Wonderful World of The Everly Brothers" and as the sub title suggested, it have 24 tracks. Among those were 'All I Have To Do Is Dream', 'Devoted To You', ’When Will I Be Loved', ‘Cathy's Clown, etc. Songs that need no introduction. The first two songs from the EP are included in this CD.
The Everly Brothers, Phil and Don, are without doubt the most important duo in the history of rock. Their influences includes The Beatles, The Hollies and folk oriented act like Simon and Garfunkel, not to mention countless solo artists, like Dave Edmund, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris. Even Paul McCartney was influenced by them in his formative years and who mentioned them in one of his song 'Let 'em In' felt compelled to write a song for them to sing. DOP : 6th June 1992.
THE EVERLY BROTHERS : THE ALL TIMES GREATEST HITS : I bought this second CD compilation 'cos I wanted more. A double CD, it contained 'Lightning Express', 'Down In The Willow Garden' and 'That Silver Haired Daddy Of Mine'. With these three CDs, I have all that I need from The Everly Brothers. Great as they were, I can't take too much of them at one go. Maybe about eight songs, then I'll have to switch CD. DOP : 29th August 2001.: 
I started to know the group in the early 80s. I had a friend who could play "Let it be me" and "All I have to do is dream" on guitar. We could sing the songs again and again whenever we gathered after school.
ReplyDeleteWell Mr. Teoh, what can I say except that it's a pity we didn't know each other when we were younger. I play the guitar and can sing the Everly Brothers' songs too. One of the beauty of their songs is that their songs are pretty easy to play......till now I can just pick up the guitar and play 'All I Have To Do Is Dream'...
