CALIFORNIA ROCK THE EAGLES

I've like The Eagles ever since I took a chance on them when I bought their Greatest Hits album many years ago, without even knowing a single songs from them. Based on their reputation and pure instinct on my part, I took a chance on them and man, the only regrets I have is not listening to them earlier.

HOTEL CALIFORNIA / THE LONG RUN : After having a delicious taste of them on their Greatest Hits album, I waited with bated breath on their next release "Hotel California" and boy, was the wait worth it. Two of the songs, 'Hotel California and 'New Kids In Town' were instant classic. I couldn't get enough of  'New Kid In Town'. An absolute perfect song. The next song that followed, Life In The Fast Lane', I don't like too much 'cos it was too noisy for me. The rest of the tracks are a pure joy to listen to. My favorites are 'Victim Of Love', ' Try And Love Again' and 'The Last Resort'. So many years later, the songs sounded just as good.

"The Long Run" followed the same format as Hotel California and it was just as enjoyable. The one that grabbed you by the throat are 'Heartache Tonight'. 'I Can't Tell You Why' and 'The Sad Cafe'. The last two songs displayed their softer sides. My firm favorite is the awesome 'Those Shoes' with an awesome talking voice box. An instant classic as only The Eagles can produced. After this came a live album and then they broke up. The Abba's song 'Eagle' was rumored to be a tribute to them, with no denying nor confirmation from Abba. DOP : 13th February 1997.

THE COMPLETE GREATEST HITS : For once since my long  CDs buying days, the title really meant what it said. This double CD really is The Eagles complete collection. All the hits and the choice album tracks are here. 'Take It Easy', 'Witchy Woman', Lyin' Eyes' to their later hits, 'Love Will Keep Us Alive' and the last song to be recorded for this album 'Hole In The World' . Nothing is missing here. Except maybe the live version of 'Hotel California' from their "Hell Freezes Over' CD..... DOP : 14th June 2004.
LONG ROAD OUT OF EDEN : The Eagles returned in 2007 with a new double studio album. Nothing ground breaking, it was just a continuation of their work like they have never left. I am not entirely familiar with the songs here but I distinctively like 'Busy Being Fabulous' Much as I like The Eagles, 20 new tracks all at one sitting is a wee too much to go through. I'll sit through it again just 'cos The Eagles are worth it. DOP : 25th January 2009.

HENLEY'S GREATEST HITS. ACTUAL MILES : The Eagles as a group for a while were without peer. They delivered what was expected of them. But unfortunately what they've achieved as a group does not transcend into their solo careers, at least not for me. Sure Don Henley was successful to an extend but somehow I find no trace of Eagles in his solo works. This CD of 12 tracks does not mean much to me. I remember seeing Don Henley on TV performing 'The Boys Of Summer' and I found it interesting. But I don't find the same excitement when I hear the track here. Maybe some songs work better live. Other tracks includes 'Dirty Laundry', The End Of The Innocence' and ‘All She Wants To Do Is Dance'. DOP : 12th December 1995.

GLENN FREY : SOLO COLLECTION : What I said about Don Henley applied here too. I bought these two CD just to add to my collections. Songs here includes 'The One You Love', 'The Heat Is On', and 'You Belong To The City'. Great they may be as The Eagles, but Beatles they certainly were not. When The Beatles went their separate ways, I can still enjoyed their music as individuals but as for The Eagles, well...not all are cut out to be solo stars.  Out of the five, four of them went solo. Don Henley being the most successful followed by Glenn Frey  DOP : Unknown.
