THE BLUES MEN IN ROCK

THE BEST OF ERIC CLAPTON : Now what can I say about Eric Clapton. Eric Clapton is the only three time three time inductee to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Once as a solo artist and separately as a member of The Yard Birds and Cream. He has also been referred to as the most important and influential guitarist of all time. Though I like the man, there are only a handful of his songs that I really like. I don't quite like blues music but Eric Clapton made it sound at least accessible..I don't much like his songs with Cream. I prefer him solo. My favorites Eric Clapton's songs are 'Cocaine', 'I Shot The Sheriff', 'Swing Low Sweet Chariot', 'Lay Down Sally', his version of Bob Dylan's Knocking On Heaven's Door' and the wonderful 'Wonderful Tonight'.
DOP : 15th April 1992.

ERIC CLAPTON : TEARS IN HEAVEN : This is a beautiful and touching song from Eric Clapton to his recently departed son who fell off a building. I'll even go so far as to declared that this is his best song since 'Wonderful Tonight' and it fittingly won the best song of the year award. The other songs from this mini CD are 'Tracks And Lines', 'Bad Love' and White Room'. This was of course rendered inessential when I bought the next Eric Clapton collection. DOP : 1st May 1993.

CLAPTON CHRONICLES : THE BEST OF ERIC CLAPTON : I prefer this much later collection than the earlier mainly 'cos the songs here are more modern. I like 'Blue Eyes Blue', 'My Father's Eyes' and his touching tribute to his departed son 'Tears In Heaven' which deservingly won the song of the year award. There's a live version of 'Wonderful Tonight'. The pick the crop for me here is his acoustic live version of 'Layla". The original never did anything for me. I much prefer this version. DOP : 6th April 2000.

GARY MOORE : BALLADS & BLUES 1962 - 1994 : Gary Moore is another artist who made the blues more pleasing to the ears. I bought this CD based on just song, 'Still Got The Blues For You', and discovered lots more gems here. The starter 'Always Gonna Love You', 'Empty Rooms',  and 'Parisienne Walkways' which just takes my breath away. The part where he prolong the guitar sound is awe inspiring. This live version is better than the studio version by the way. And then there are 'One Day', 'Separate Ways' and 'The Story Of The Blues'. Good they be but still listening to such songs of sadness on one stretch can really put you down. So there are some songs that I skipped. DOP : 27th November 1994.

GARY MOORE : BACK ON THE STREETS. THE ROCK COLLECTION : I got this on discount and it was worth every cents. I am not so familiar with the songs here but I remember listening to them and I felt like I was on an acid trip. Listening with my eyes close with a smile on my face. Tracks includes 'Out In The Fields', 'Run For Cover', 'All Messed Up', and 'Shapes of Things'. Sad that he went the way he did. DOP : 11th November 2011.
