DEEP PURPLE : HIGHWAY STAR: THE ORIGINAL BEST : My first taste of Deep Purple was through the song 'Black Night' which I've heard from the radio. Compared to the songs of the time, it was considered quite heavy. I was not too crazy about this CD but when you place it on the CD player, you just can't help liking it. All the hits are here. 'Highway Star', the iconic 'Smoke On The Water', 'Strange Kind Of Woman' and the beautiful non album rock ballad 'Soldier Of Fortune'. There's even another version of 'Smoke On The Water' here, abelt a live one. Only song missing here is 'Never Before', one of my favorite from the album "Machine Head" but I've managed to rectified that. DOP : 24th December 1996.
MACHINE HEAD : ANNIVERSARY 2CD EDITION : It's been close to 30 years and finally I got myself this classic album. I've heard a few songs from here when the album first came out but it wasn't enough to spur me to get the album 'cos I was still a little against hard rock at that time. Still, l better late than never. There's not a bad tracks here. Another one of those albums that you can play throughout. This is a double CD, comprising of the 1997 remixes ( the year this CD came out ) and the original remastered version. Also included are two version of 'When A Blind Man Cried', the flip side to their single 'Never Before' as well as A Quadrophonic Mix of ‘Lazy' and 'Maybe I'm A Leo'. Personally speaking, one CD would be more than sufficient for me. I don't really need the other one which consists of almost identical songs. DOP : 8th July 2012.
THE 'ORIGINAL' BAD CO. ANTHOLOGY : What happened to Deep Purple happened to Bad Company. I started on them late 'cos I have been bypassing this kind of music. Everybody around me was talking about Bad Company but I stick to my gun. Fortunately, good music prevail. Bad Company may be good but I don't really need a double CD from them. I was only familiar with 'Can't Get Enough' then which was always on the radio. The rest of the goodies are ' Rock Steady', 'Ready For Love' the beautiful award winning 'Feels Like Making Love' and the rocking 'Shooting Star'. So for what it's worth, the songs that I need from Bad Company were just these few songs. One song missing was their version of ' Young Blood' from their "Run With The Pack" album. Their version of this song was awesome to say the least. DOP : 8th July 1999.
THE ESSENTIAL ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA : I like the few songs that I've sampled from ELO. I like Jeff Lyne's style and vocal. It have a very Beatleque sound to it. It fact ELO was fashioned after The Beatles late 60's period. I like his music on the movie "Xanadu". But unfortunately what's on the rest of their hits are not so pleasing to my ears. The only song that I like here out of 15 is 'Rock And Roll Is King', a kick ass no nonsense rock and roll song of the highest order. Other than this track, the others just don't connect with me. One of their lesser single which I've heard a long ago and liked 'The Lights Go Down' is sadly not here. DOP : 5th December 2010.ELO'S GREATEST HITS. VOLUME TWO : This one here flared better with me. It have almost the best tracks from the movie 'Xanadu" and the disco 'Last Train To London'. My personal favorite here from "Xanadu" and also the reason why I bought this is 'Don't Walk Away', a beautifully sang sad love song. ' I'm Alive' also from "Xanadu" is another winner. DOP : 29th January 1996.
