MODERN COUNTRY SINGERS

THE VERY BEST OF KRIS KRISTOFFERSON. 16 GREAT SONGS : As mentioned before, Kris Kristofferson owned a debt to Johnny Cash when he recorded his 'Sunday Morning's Coming Down' and encouraged his song writing and singing while he was working as a janitor emptying ashtrays and pushing a broom at the same time when Bob Dylan was recording his "Blonde On Blonde" album. The first four songs from this collection are worth the price of the whole CD. 'Me & Bobby McGee' which was a smash for Janis Joplin, 'Help Me Make It Through The Night', a hit for numerous artists, 'For The Good Time', a hit for Perry Como and of course Johnny Cash's cover of 'Sunday Morning Coming Down'. I like Kris Kristofferson. His rugged style of singing and his original version of 'Help Me Make It Through The Night' drowned out all the other versions. Married to Rita Coolidge at one time, they've released together a few albums and one song that I am missing is their 'A Song I Like To Sing' which is obsolete but I managed to get in on MP3. DOP : Unknown.

KRIS KRISTOFFERSON . THE COUNTRY COLLECTION : This collection is actually a budget price 1998 featuring two of the singer's albums  1987's "Repossessed" and 1990' "Third World Warrior", presented in order. Needless to say, I also got it cheap. Consisting of 20 tracks, I find this more appealing than Willie Nelson. It's a real shame that he was seduced by Hollywood and neglected his singing career.. Bad career move as far as I am concerned. If he have continued singing, he could have reached even greater height, as such he is only a so so actor. DOP : 18th August 2011.

THE FREDDY FENDER COLLECTOR : I got this CD by chance. I got something that I didn't like and I exchanged it for this CD 'cos there wasn't any other choice. Consisting of 10 songs, that was way too little and criminal on the part of the record companies who release this CD. But man, on man, what a treasure I've discovered. Almost every tracks is a joy. Before this, I only know 'Before The Next Teardrops Falls' This collection have opened my eyes to Freddy Fender. ' Favorites includes 'It's All In The Game', a song that I've heard done by numerous artists but somehow Freddy got it just right, 'Since I Met You, Baby', 'Secret Love' is one of the best version I've heard and 'Pledging My Love' is a pure heavenly.I take back what I say about 10 songs being too little. If there's any more songs of this caliber, I may just melt. DOP : 2nd February 1992.

FREDDY FENDER : Carried away by the first Freddy Fender CD, I grabbed this. At RM5.00 it's almost criminal. Anyway, at that price and the number of tracks here which is 20, it's understandable that the quality would be questionable. The recording here is also nothing to shout home about. Only song I find of interest is 'Just Because' because John Lennon have covered it on his "Rock 'n' Roll" album and I am curious to hear how it sounds like with other artists. Well, John's is much better, and I am not biased. DOP : 28th April 2000.

FREDDY FENDER. 2 CD AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION : My third Freddy Fender CD. Consisting of 42 tracks, I think I have enough of Freddy Fender's songs to last me a life time. The songs here are almost identical to the above CD, albeit a better sound quality. At RM 9.90, it's the next best thing to stealing. Tracks here includes  Wasted Days And Wasted Nights,, 'I'm Leaving It All Up To You',  'Almost Persuaded', 'Your Cheating Heart' and live versions of 'Jambalaya', 'Secret Love' and 'Wasted Days And Wasted Nights ' again. There's also’Jamaica Farewell' and 'La Bamba'.  DOP : 11th December 2011.
