SOUNDTRACKS THAT SERVES A PURPOSE

Soundtracks nowadays are not like the soundtracks of the old days. There are merely an excuse for the record companies to sell as many records as they can. However, they do serve a purpose with me when a near obscure song is found in there. These are some of the soundtrack CD that I owe.

STONEWALL : I've never heard of this movie nor any of the stars in it. I bought this solely for the song 'Over The Rainbow' by Judy Garland. The rest I just couldn't waste my time on them. They may be good but I just don't give a damn. And since I've have had 'Over The Rainbow' on other disc, the worth of this CD have gone down significantly for me.  DOP : 7th April 2002.

LA BAMBA : This is much better. I bought it knowing what the songs were. Only complain was that the CD was too short. Otherwise it's sheer enjoyment. Most of the tracks were performed by Los Lobos. My favorites were 'La Bamba', 'Come On, Let's Go', 'Ooh! My Head', 'the sweet 'We Belong Together' and 'Donna' as well as 'Framed'. All these were by Los Lobos. The other non Los Lobos goodies were 'Lonely Teardrops' by Howard Huntsberry and 'Summertime Blues' by Brian Setze. A winner all the way as was the movie. DOP : 27th November 1993.

FLASH DANCE : This was a big hit in 1983 and it won the best song  for that year. Don't really know why I bought this 'cos the title track could be found in numerous compilation as well as the second hit from here 'Maniac' I remember liking 'Seduce Me Tonight'. Other than this, my mind's a blank 'cos I don't play this often enough. DOP : 7th March 1996.

DIRTY DANCING : One of my all time favourite movie. The songs are not bad too. '( I've Had ) The Time Of My Life' is a great romantic piece while the rest of the tracks like 'Be My Baby', 'Stay' , 'Hey Baby' and 'Love Is Strange' made this a worthwhile purchase. The main star Patrick Swayze even had a solo here titled 'She's Like The Wind'. A great soundtrack but a tab too short for my liking. DOP : 18th December 1996.

MORE DIRTY DANCING : With the success of the movie and soundtrack, a follow up was inevitable. This CD was not really essential for me 'cos I have most of the tracks on other CD. There are great song choice though. There's an instrumental version of ( I've Had ) The Time Of My Life', Other hits includes here are 'Big Girls Don't Cry', 'Do You Love Me', the rocking instrumental 'Wipeout' and 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow'. DOP : 27th February 1997.

MAYBE BABY : I got this on discount mainly for Paul McCartney's version of Brian Holly's 'Maybe Baby'. The rest of the tracks I just couldn't run thru. Maybe I will one day but not now. Never heard of the movie as well. DOP : 15th April 2005.

DICK : THE UNMAKING OF THE PRESIDENT : Now this is more like it. My personal favourites are the hard to find 'Hooked On A Feeling' by Blue Swede, Grand Funk's 'The Locomotion', and Stories' 'Brother Louie. The rest of the tracks will keep you from pressing the skip button. 'Dancing Queen' by Sixpence None The Richer, 'Crocodile Rock', Lady Marmalade', 'Rock Your Baby', 'Love Theme', etc. DOP : 8th May 2003.

ROMY AND MICHELE'S HIGH SCHOOL REUNION : This is a more modern collection of songs. I bought this for The Vapors' highly charged 'Turning Japanese', Elsewhere you'll find Bananarama's 'Venus', Culture Club's 'Karma Chameleon' Tears For Fear's 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World' and Belinda Carlisle's 'Heaven Is A Place On Earth'. Yet another winner which I bought  for a song. DOP : 20th October 2005.

THE FULL MONTY : This CD consisted of 13 tracks, the only songs of interest to me are Wilson Pickett's 'Land Of A 1,000 Dances' and Gary Glitter's 'Rock And Roll Part 2". Not that the rest of the tracks are bad. The good ones like 'You Sexy Thing ( Hot Chocolate ), 'Hot Stuff' ( Donna Summer ), 'We Are Family ( Sister Sledge ) and 'Flashdance...What A Feeling '95' ( Irene Cara ), I've already have. Steve Harvey & Cockney Rebel's ' Make Me Smile [ Come Up And See Me ]' is also here as well as Tom Jones's 'You Can Leave Your Hat On'. DOP : 30th March 2013. Given to me by my nephew, Edmund Leong.
